A Special Day with a Special Family
The 2nd Annual TBBC BBQ took place yesterday and as expected, we had wonderful time. We had twice the number of guests as last year’s event so it was a huge success! Just as you keep getting better with your fitness, we get better with running the Boot Camp. While we don’t have a single regret for this year, here are some things we learned and may do different next year…
- Having the games on a separate day from the BBQ. This way we can focus more on hanging out and family activities at the picnic
- Expanding the games into multiple events
- Giving a heads up on the events to allow people to train for them
Not only was it a great time with friends and family but our first ever TBBC Games took place.
TBBC Games results
23 TBBCers (9M/ 14F) competed for the titles of TBBC’s Toughest Boot Camper. We had a women’s division winner as well as a men’s division winner. The overall winner (best time and performance) was to choose the charity that the $263 (raised from your donations) would go towards.
The games consisted of a metabolic resistance circuit including sprints, push ups, dips, and squat/curl presses (15 lb for women and 25 lb for men).
While TBBC Transformation coaches weren’t able to win the contest we must acknowledge Samantha Gilchrist and Scott Kaplan for not only achieving excellent times but also being a great example with their form.
The winner for our Men’s division was TBBC newcomer and all around great guy Shane Ferguson. Congrats Shane. We’re looking forward to GREAT things from you at TBBC. You may have a target on your back now but consider it a healthy pressure to keep improving.:)
The winner of our Women’s division and overall winner was Raquel. Raquel was at a disadvantage being one of our smaller competitors but she prevailed and earned the title of TBBCs Toughest Boot Camper. Congrats Raquel. We’re so proud that you can carry that title and will be able to defend it next year.:) Raquel chose St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (link to St. Judes) to donate to.
Special Shout Outs
We thank everyone who chose to spend their time with us at the BBQ. It truly was a great day! While everyone who came was an important part of the day, I’d like to send an extra special thanks to the following people…
Melissa – Melissa organized the entire event and did a terrific job.
Scott – Grill master Scott came through for us big time and also ran all over town to get last minute supplies. Rumor has it he tried to poison me once but he still did a GREAT job.
Sam – The kids had a GREAT time thanks to Sam’s creativity and unmatched enthusiasm.
Billy R. – Setting up the canopy and helping run the games.
Tom Lamberson – Tom won the award for bringing the most family members (6) and was a huge help with supplies (e.g. coolers, ice, etc.). He also showed some serious baking skills with his cheesecakes.
Kathy – Kathy lent us a huge cooler and even drove the overflow of food and equipment back to our house for us.
Lynda Collins – Lynda brought sternos, a tent, cooler, and even her 3 week old grandson Mikey!
Nancy Lamberson (Tom’s wife and Sam’s sister) – Walking Alyssa which freed us up to break down the party.
Clean up crew – Thanks to everyone who stayed to help clean up including Mark and Sonja Mellynchuk, Scott, Tom, Melissa, Kathy, Sam, and Micah.
I’m certain I missed people here. I couldn’t see everything and I was super busy with the games. Who did I miss? Who else was a huge help and/or added something special?
