I had a great staycation last week with the fam and I was ready and fired up to come back to TBBC this week. Unfortunately, as is common in life, things happen out of our control. I got pretty sick and was diagnosed with shingles. Nasty rash on face, pain, weakness, etc. No fun at all! While we can’t always control what happens to us, we are 100% in charge of how we react to it. I decided to do what I could to recover quickly and I used the time to reflect. And thank God for Melissa who is a super woman and took care of both me and Alyssa!
While I was struggling with this short term problem, I heard a very sad story of someone who now has a long term problem of an entirely different magnitude. Many of you probably heard the story. It was on front page of Newsday today. The family lives right down the block from me and I was driving by as his interview was being conducted. This poor guy lost his precious 18 year old daughter. I can’t even begin to imagine the mixed emotions he’s feeling right now and my heart goes out to him and his fam.
Needless to say, this caused me to reflect some more. Each day we have is a gift and we should be thankful for it. Hold those you love close to you. And make sure you’re living your purpose.
Also, don’t forget to celebrate your wins! We (humans) have a terrible habit of focusing on what we didn’t do. While you should move on to bigger and better challenges, don’t forget to recognize what you accomplish. Make it through a tough Boot Camp session? Be proud of yourself. To take this a step further, take a pen and pad out tonight and write down all of the little wins you’ve had all year (or over the last few months). For many of us this will take a long time. Not because we have so many things to list but because we’re so “busy,” we don’t take time to celebrate.
Peace,
Billy
