I received a question from a nutrition coaching client that was phrased just like that….”Is this bad?” Along with the question was a picture of a pre-made snack that you heat up in the microwave.
I love answering questions on health and nutrition because without questions there are no answers.
Since the question was rather simple, so was my answer. I explained that while no one food is particularly “bad,” this option may not have been the most effective choice. We generally recommend avoiding foods that come packaged in a box. Foods that are as close to their natural source as possible tend to be much healthier.
Here are some alternative snack options that I suggested.
- A handful of nuts with a piece of fruit
- Carrots with hummus
- Natural peanut butter on a slice of organic whole grain bread
- A healthy meal replacement shake like IsaLean
Healthy snacking is important. One of the main causes of overeating is under eating. Healthy snacking can help prevent this. For that reason, it is crucial to learn which snacks work for you.
