There is a popular book titled, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey. Successful people tend to do things a bit differently than unsuccessful people.
One thing that always stood out to me is that successful people always seem to have a plan. The late great motivational guru Zig Ziglar used to call people without a plan or goal a “wandering generality” as opposed to a “meaningful specific.”
There are 3 other habits that fit and healthy people seem to do as well. Studies support my observations.
- Effective Breakfast – People that lose weight keep it off, and are generally more fit, eat an effective breakfast first thing in the morning. They are not the type who skip breakfast or grab a donut on the way to work.
- Exercise daily – Successful weight losers (a good thing) exercise most days of the week. They make this a lifestyle, not something they do when they gain weight back. There are many benefits to a consistent exercise program and one of them is weight loss and weight gain prevention. It is very difficult to prevent weight gain without an exercise program in place. Find something that works and stick with it.
- Journaling – This doesn’t have to be anything long or drawn out. We usually recommend just jotting down the time, type of food, and amount. When we try to get too complicated (e.g. weighing food), it doesn’t work. Just like any habit, it’s simple to do once it is developed.
You might be wondering where to start. Your best bet is to start with the area you feel would make the biggest difference in your life. Another idea is to start with the one that will be easiest to make a change. This will help you create momentum for a snowball effect. Don’t over think it though. Start with one and take action. If you feel like you need help making some of these important changes, consider joining our Nutrability program. The investment is small, especially compared to the benefits you will gain from nutrition habit changes. The best part is we are giving you 30 Free Days but you must register now.
