I was recently talking with someone about their fitness.
They explained to me that they were waiting for the motivation to get fit.
This is when I explained to them nicely that they had it backwards.
Motivation will NOT just appear. It all starts with ACTION.
Taking action, even a tiny one will help create momentum and lead to motivation.
I hope you aren’t waiting for motivation. If you are, stop. Instead, take ACTION.
Get into the action habit. Those that get ahead take ACTION. It may sound scary but the “action” doesn’t have to be anything overwhelming.
Here’s how it works. Take the goal that you have (You do have one right?) and break it down into smaller milestones.
We make the mistake of only looking at the big picture. I’ve made this mistake plenty of times. The key is to make it a game. You remember what it’s like to play games right?
I remember sitting in front of video games for hours not to beat the whole game but to try to make it to the next level. That’s what we need to do with our goals.
Perhaps you are completely sedentary and you want to become more active by running a mile. Your “levels” might look like this.
- Get out of bed 15 minutes earlier than normal
- Get out of bed 15 minutes earlier than normal and just lace up your sneakers
- Get out of bed 15 minutes earlier than normal, lace up your sneakers, and walk around the block
- Walk one mile
- Walk one mile but jog periodically
I hope you get the point. There are no rules and you can make the levels whatever you want. The key is recognizing them.
